Democrats Fear The Possibility That Nancy Pelosi Could Lose Her Job Over COVID-19

Congressional Democrats are reportedly worried about the possibility that the coronavirus may cost Nancy Pelosi her job.

According to N.Y. Post, the democratic party is facing a far narrower majority next year. Some members fear that a serious outbreak could disproportionately hit the Democrats and upend her expected reelection as Speaker of the House.

“Let’s say, just theoretically, we had six or eight people out with COVID and the Republicans have none. They probably could elect [Kevin] McCarthy,” Rep. John Yarmuth (D-Ky.), said to The Hill about the current Republican House leader.

Pelosi will also be tasked with the responsibility of getting her caucus to show up. During her last campaign for speaker two years ago, she pulled out a win despite 15 members of her own political party voting against her, and she will not have that margin of error this time.

Washington, DC, has been affected by the coronavirus, as it continues to spread across the country. Last week, five new House members tested positive for the dreaded virus — bringing the total lawmakers with confirmed infections of COVID-19 to 35.
