Democrats introduced “The Childcare For Working Families Act” on Thursday. This proposed bill would allow working families who earn 150% less of the state’s median income to receive free childcare.
Within the next two years , the legislation aims to use $90 billion to ensure no family will spend more than 7% of their income on childcare.
Representative Bobby Scott (VA) stated, “Decades of research shows that properly nurturing children in the early years of life is instrumental in supporting enhanced brain development, cognitive functioning, and emotional and physical health.”
Scott continued, “Today, the cost of child care has skyrocketed and too many parents now have to choose between paying for child care or a good-paying job. This bill fixes this national crisis and lays out the path of what early learning in America should look like.”
