Baltimore Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta has been advised by doctors that he should not resume his NFL career.
Pitta has had two major hip operations that have left his season questionable and doctors have warned him that it is not safe for him to continue playing football. Â The decision was ultimately left up to Pitta, as he can override the doctors’ recommendations and continue to play. According to sources, coach Jim Harbaugh is also aware of Pitta’s situation and has left the decision up to him.
Pitta had until 1pm EST today to make his decision. The Ravens tight end decided that he will not continue the season, though he is not ready to completely retire. Pitta will take the season off to continue to rehab and try to strengthen his hip. He has been rehabbing his latest hip injury since September 21, 2014.
