A Minnesota Judge has ruled that Derek Chauvin can leave the state of Minnesota due to “safety concerns.”
According to NBC News, Chauvin who was released earlier this week on a million-dollar bond, was granted permission leave the state after a Hennepin County judge ruled that the Department of Corrections provided evidence that unidentified “safety concerns” have arisen in Chauvin’s pretrial, conditional release.
The judge modified the conditions of his release to allow the disgraced former officer to live either in Minnesota or a neighboring state, with a condition that he carry a cellphone at all times to answer any calls from the Department of Corrections.
The judge also ruled that Chauvin will have “no permanent address” in the public court information system but must report his new address to his conditional release officer, who will share it with the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Court Security Division, as well as the prosecution and the defense.
The 44-year-old former officer is awaiting trial and facing murder and manslaughter charges after video showed him kneeling on the neck of George Floyd for about eight minutes during an arrest on took place on May 25.
