Derek Jeter has spoken out against claims that he backed out of an underwear deal because 50 Cent’s involvement would make it too urban.
On Wednesday it was reported that Swedish underwear company, Frigo, is suing Jeter for $4.7 million after he backed out of their deal. Jeter was said to have claimed that once the company signed on 50 Cent as an ambassador in the United States, the company would become to urban — this according to the lawsuit filed by Frigo owner Mathias Ingvarsson.
Jeter is now saying that those allegations are simply untrue. Jeter tells Page Six, “I am disgusted by Mr. Ingvarsson’s decision to make these false allegations against me in the press, instead of attempting to work out our business dispute in private.”
Jeter also says that there’s no way he was against 50 Cent joining Frigo because he’s the one who introduced them. “I facilitated the introductory meeting between 50 Cent and the company,” said Jeter. “So it makes absolutely no sense that I would object to 50 Cent being a Frigo brand ambassador or think that 50 Cent is ‘too urban’ for the brand.”
Jeter claims that Ingvarsson intends to initiate a smear campaign against him. “It is unfortunate that Mr. Ingvarsson continues to make false claims and bad decisions with respect to RevolutionWear Inc.,” Jeter’s statement continued, claiming Ingvarsson only came to him “threatening litigation and a negative publicity campaign” when the company began to fail and he needed “additional capital into the failed business.”
Jeter has now filed a suit against Frigo, which is pending in Delaware.
