Designer Brands Being Pulled From TJ Maxx, Ross, Burlington

Bargain hunters may not find the designer clothes they use to at discount stores like T.J. Maxx, Burlington, and Ross.

These discount chains are known to thrive when there is a glut of clothing in the market. But because there is a scare amount of unsold clothes around, the stores are unable to get and sell premium apparel and shoe brands’ at their excessively lower prices.

Since inventories are low and customer demand is high, brands don’t have as great a need to discount merchandise, and they are easily selling items at full price, CNN reported.

Under Armour, Ralph Lauren, Carter’s, and Steve Madden are among the brands that have decided to back off from discount chains, also known as “off-price” stores. Levi has also walked away from discount stores.

It’s not just because of the pandemic, either. Some of these brands wanted to back away from off-price companies, saying they are the least profitable outlets for brands. On top of that, some feel that offering too many products at a discount dilutes brands’ image and erodes their power when it comes to pricing.

It is more profitable to sell their items through their own outlets.

“Off-price is a last resort,” said Susan Anderson, a retail analyst at B. Riley Securities. She said discount stores could suffer in the long term if brands keep their inventories tighter.

The move to retreat from discount stores seems favorable, but it’s uncertain what will happen when the demand isn’t so high and the supply is significant.

  1. Last paragraph ā€¦ word typo ā€¦ first word should be The.

  2. I am very disappointed. I am on a very tight budget and shopping at those stores allows me to get my kids and grandkids name brand clothing I could not afford otherwise. I will have to let friends, family and Co workers know that those brands are only for the rich and not for the average family that works hard to support their family. They think they are better then the average person and should be on a pedesta. I would have to disappoint when they think that I think they are less and do not need the admiration.

  3. Seriously fuck you guys. Tj max is amazing and I won’t go out of my way to buy your brand else where. Suck it

  4. I think that is ridiculous, the brand name companies should continue sending their seconds to TJMaxx, Ross, and other store that sells brand names. Those companies who send their merchandise to these chains are not losing anything. This is a matter of greed.

    • Couldn’t care less if I don’t get to wear signature brands. I only care for quality & reasonably priced clothing and there are many, many good quality clothes with unknown brands. I never understand those people who wear shirts with big logo of their favorite high end designers. They buy the designers clothing so they can be the free walking advertisement billboards. It looks tacky but whateveršŸ˜

    • You can still get them just at their outlets just not at TJ Maxx, Marshall’s or Ross is all.

  5. I shop at goodwill anyway! Donā€™t need name brands to be someone. Azs holes.

  6. Greed IS alive and well….esp in Washington, DC

Wow so take affordable quality products from stores where everyday consumers can afford them and leave no choice well that’s not ever going to work out or make good sense monetarily and I believe it will back fire on those companies.

  8. Wow the stores are already scarce as it isā€¦ but hey it will hopefully back fire on them ā€¦ why take from the less fortunate people to give to people who already has money and are not going to buy them anyway.

  9. What I just donā€™t understand is why take from where thereā€™s just a little and give where there is much more?! I mean God has given us two hands, one to receive with and the other to give with.
Why do people take only and with both of them !

    • Maybe we big companies should not use over seas workers and make everything in the United states. Maybe we should buy only things made in the Usa..We canchange things by doing this.

  10. There are not outlets stores, in many of these small towns, so itā€™s a bad ideal to remove the brand names, because Iā€™m sure there are so many people, that prefer to shop at the stores, where you are planning on taking your brands out of. Keep the brands coming,

  11. Because for them It’s easy to make a buck but It’s a lot tougher to make a difference.šŸ‘æ

    • Corporations have to do what’s best for their brand. Most stores have a sales rack .In this country many consumers want something for nothing this is why we have low wages an a shortage of workers. Bring back the middle class pay livable wages raise the price of products make better products by manufacturing in US . Business can pay better wages , consumer can afford better products everyone wins.

  12. Iā€™m sure the majority of us have plenty of clothes to survive on for a long long time. A shortage does not compel me to go pay full price at a high end store. It compels me to make use of the clothing Iā€™ve purchased and barely worn. First world problemsšŸ™„

  13. Wow I never going to dance again guilty feeling got no rhythm

  14. They’ll be back once the supply/demand issue is put behind us. Eventually they’ll find themselves with a large overstock of high priced merchandise nobody wants to buy. They’re just attempting to make a quick buck in the post pandemic retail industry. Everyone, including the wealthy love a good price point and these stores are loved by every socioeconomic group šŸ˜‚

  15. There is a demonic spirit of greed in the world especially among the billionaires. They think they are going to live forever and take their money to hell with them šŸ¤£

  16. As a years long discount shopper, specifically TJ Maxx this is more than disappointing. I also worked in retail and know how much items are marked up in regular stores and the brands outlets which is another reason I choose to shop in discount stores. My bet is, once things settle down, and there is no supply chain problem, these brands will be back begging discount chains to take their products.

    • Exactly. It’s their way to get us into their so called outlet stores. But nope it won’t be happening. Their so called outlet stores are way over prices thats why they are hurting.
