The comic duo Desus and Mero, have shaken up the light night talk show scene as news broke that the two are ending their program and their partnership.
Daniel Baker, known as Desus Nice, and Joel Martinez, who is known as the Kid Mero, are both Bronx natives and teamed up on Showtime twice a week in their series, “Desus and Mero.”
Sadly, the show will not return for the 5th season.
The news follows months of speculation that the two had fallen out.
They had previously merged their individual Twitter followings into the podcast Desus vs Mero in 2013, which transpired into an even more popular podcast called Bodega Boys in 2015. The pair eventually landed a TV series, which aired for two years on Vice before Showtime picked it up.
From there, they went on to do more big things, including have co-authored an advice book and even interviewing Forever President Barack Obama.
The former two-piece will be “pursuing separate creative endeavours moving forward”, according to a statement from Showtime.
The news is a confirmation of what many have suspected for months since there was a lack of news about a potential fifth season of the Showtime series.
In January, Mero tweeted that he had “no idea” when their Bodega Boys podcast would return.
There are currently 253 episodes.
On Monday, a Twitter account known as the “Bodega Hive”, also confirmed the news from their joint account without commenting on the reasons for their split.
“Bodega Hive: The illustrious @desusnice and @THEKIDMERO will be pursuing separate creative endeavours moving forward. #DESUSandMERO will not be returning to Showtime. It’s been a good run, fam.”
Separately, Desus wrote on Twitter that he was “proud of the show” and then hinted that he had more projects on the way: “Big tings soon come…”
