Yikes…that’s definitely not a great way to start the NFL season. After Cowboys star receiver Dez Bryant left the field during the second half of the season opener against the Giants, it was confirmed by head coach Jason Garrett that he had been diagnosed with a broken foot. Bryant will have to undergo surgery, which will keep him out of the game for four to six weeks as he recovers.
Bryant was injured at the beginning of the fourth quarter. He caught a five-yard pass from Tony Romo before getting tackled by Giants cornerback Prince Amukamara. After that play, he sat out on the bench and was examined by medical staff, before finally being taken into the locker room, where it was later determined that he had indeed broken a bone in his foot. Before Bryant went down, he had five catches on the night for a total of 48 yards.
Despite this huge loss to their team, the Cowboys still beat the Giants in impressive fashion with a late comeback drive led by Romo. Broken foot or not, it wasn’t gonna stop Dez from celebrating the team’s win. After the game, he was seen limping energetically out of the locker room, yelling and clapping as he congratulated his teammates and coaches. He also expressed his excitement on Twitter.
While losing Dez might be a Cowboys fan’s worst nightmare, the team seemed to manage just fine without him late in the game on Sunday. As long as Romo can maintain good chemistry with Jason Witten, Terrance Williams, and Cole Beasley, the Cowboys should be able to get by until Romo’s number one target returns. No doubt #88 will be back and ready to go in no time. Get well soon, Dez!
