The Twitter account for controversial video bloggers Diamond and Silk was temporarily locked over a tweet that was critical of stay at home orders, which are currently in place to combat the spread of coronavirus.
The Trump-supporting duo tweeted, “The only way we can become immune to the environment; we must be out in the environment. Quarantining people inside of their houses for extended periods will make people sick!”
Almost immediately after, their account was locked by Twitter.
“The Tweet is in violation of our COVID-19 misinformation policy. The account will be locked until the account owner removes the Tweet,” a Twitter spokesperson revealed, according to Deadline.com.
The tweet was reportedly removed on Wednesday.
The two have been adamant supporters of Donald Trump since he first ran for office in 2016.
Twitter is cracking down on inappropriate tweets. On March 18th, the company rolled out a policy that expanded on their definition of posts that could be seen as harmful.
“We have broadened our definition of harm to address content that goes directly against guidance from authoritative sources of global and local public health information,” company officials announced.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Other Trump supporters have also had their accounts temporarily locked for harmful tweets. Trump’s personal lawyer and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani had his account locked after he tweeted a claim from conservative activist Charlie Kirk, that the drug hydroxychloroquine could safely treat COVID-19. Twitter said that Giuliani’s tweet was deleted for violating the coronavirus misinformation policy.
Although Trump himself stood behind the drug, a member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force has said it requires more clinical trials.
Brazil’s president, Jair Bolsonaro, shared a similar tweet in support of the drug, which was also removed for violation.
