Diddy is scheduled to be sentenced this Friday after being convicted of arranging for male escorts to travel across state lines to engage in sexual activities with his girlfriends.
Prosecutors are urging a prison sentence of at least 11 years, citing the fear and lasting trauma he has inflicted on his victims. Diddy, who has been detained in a Brooklyn federal lockup since his September 2024 arrest, was acquitted in July of the most serious charges, including racketeering and sex trafficking, sparing him a potential life sentence. Nevertheless, he faces up to 20 years behind bars for his convictions, which involved orchestrated sexual encounters referred to as “freak-offs.”
In a pre-sentencing filing submitted early Tuesday, prosecutors described Diddy as “unrepentant” and emphasized the extensive harm caused to his victims. The filing included letters from accusers detailing the psychological, emotional, and physical impact of his actions.
“His crimes of conviction are serious and have warranted sentences over ten years in multiple cases for defendants who, like Diddy, engaged in violence and put others in fear,” the filing stated.
Prosecutors argued that the sentence should reflect not only the crimes themselves but also the manner in which Diddy committed them.
“He is not the victim,” the filing said. “The Court should focus on the very real effects that the defendant’s conduct had on the lives of the actual victims, his victims.”
They described the defendant’s conduct as part of “decades of unchecked violence,” causing long-lasting damage.
Diddy’s legal team, in contrast, has asked the court to impose a 14-month sentence. They argued that evidence of abuse described by his former girlfriends during the trial should not influence sentencing, given that the jurors acquitted him of coercing them into sexual activity.
Diddy himself hopes to be released on time served when the sentence is handed down.
