Diddy just secured a victory in a New York court.
A federal judge ruled that John Doe, the man suing him over alleged assault, must reveal his identity.
The lawsuit, filed in October 2024, accuses Sean “Diddy” Combs of drugging and sexually assaulting Doe in 2003 when he was 17.
Doe claims he met Combs at a Miami nightclub, where he was led to believe the mogul could help launch his career. After drinking a beverage that allegedly caused disorientation, Doe says he was assaulted by Combs.
Doe has requested anonymity, citing the potential for public scrutiny and emotional distress.
According to reports, Combs’ legal team pushed back, arguing the gravity of the allegations meant that Doe should not be allowed to stay anonymous.
They contended that protecting his identity could allow for false claims to damage Combs’ reputation without accountability.
U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan sided with Combs, ruling that Doe must disclose his name before the case proceeds.
This legal win comes at a time when Combs is facing multiple serious legal challenges.
He is currently incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, awaiting trial on charges related to sex trafficking and racketeering.
Combs’ lawyers argue that many claims against him are opportunistic, as the expanded statutes of limitations have allowed for older cases to be brought to court.
While this ruling adds a new layer to Combs’ ongoing legal issues, it also highlights how serious the legal landscape is for the music mogul.
