Kid Cudi took the stand Thursday in Sean “Diddy” Combs’ ongoing federal trial, offering key testimony about a disturbing 2011 encounter tied to Combs’ reaction to his brief relationship with Cassie Ventura.
Cudi, born Scott Mescudi, testified that in December 2011, he got a distressed early morning call from Cassie. According to his testimony, she was frightened and told him that Combs had just found out about their relationship. Cassie also told him that Combs was abusive.
“She sounded really stressed on the phone, nervous, scared,” Cudi said. “So I went to pick her up.”
After getting Cassie, Cudi took her to the Sunset Marquis hotel to keep her safe and away from Combs. But that safety was short-lived.
While they were at the hotel, Cudi said he got a call from Capricorn Clark, an employee of Combs who was with Cassie on speakerphone. Clark warned them that Combs and an associate were inside Cudi’s house, and she was sitting outside in a car.
“She sounded very scared, like she was on the verge of tears,” Cudi testified. “She said she was forced to go along with them over there.”
On his way back to his house, Cudi said he called Combs directly.
“He said, ‘What’s up?’ and I said, ‘Motherf*****, are you in my house?’ He said, ‘I’m here waiting for you.’”
Cudi told the jury he was angry and wanted to confront Combs but held back because he didn’t know who Combs might have brought with him.
This marks the first time Cudi has publicly spoken in detail about this alleged incident, and it supports earlier testimony from Cassie Ventura and other witnesses, including Diddy’s former employees, that paint a pattern of intimidation, surveillance, and control.
Earlier in the day, Cudi confirmed that he and Cassie briefly dated in 2011 and that he believed she and Combs were no longer together at that time. “They had some problems,” he said.
