Diddy’s legal team is trying to wipe Kid Cudi’s testimony about the mysterious destruction of his Porsche from the record.
Cudi took the stand last week and claimed he believed Diddy “was lying” when he denied knowing anything about the car explosion. The moment allegedly happened during a meeting at Soho House in Los Angeles, where Cudi confronted him in front of Cassie.
Cudi told the court a Molotov cocktail torched his Porsche back in 2012. The explosion happened not long after Cudi had an on and off relationship with Cassie in 2011. At the time, she and Diddy were still a couple, but “weren’t in the greatest place,” according to her earlier testimony.
Cassie previously told the court Diddy lost it when he found out about her and Cudi. She claimed he threatened to have Cudi’s car blown up. Then, months later, the Porsche went up in flames, confirmed to have been caused by an “incendiary device.”
Now, Diddy’s lawyers want all of Cudi’s statements removed from the trial. They argue that his claim Diddy was “lying” is just opinion, not fact. In court, witnesses aren’t allowed to give personal opinions on whether someone else was telling the truth.
The defense says Cudi’s testimony is based on “mere speculation” and could unfairly sway the jury. They believe it’s more damaging than helpful to the case, especially since arson is one of the racketeering acts Diddy is charged with.
Diddy is currently facing serious charges including sex trafficking, racketeering, and transporting women for prostitution. He’s denied everything.
His lawyers maintain that Cudi’s claims hold “minimal probative value” and only serve to unfairly paint him as guilty.
