Diddy’s legal woes continue to mount and now his mother, Janice Combs, is being pulled into the drama once again thanks to a new lawsuit.
Kirk Burrowes, the co-founder and former president of Bad Boy Entertainment, claims he was coerced into surrendering his 25 percent stake in the label during a violent confrontation with Diddy in 1996. Following the altercation, Burrowes alleges that the “I Need a Girl” star transferred the shares to his mother, Janice, now 84. While she wasn’t physically present during the altercation, Burrowes believes she orchestrated the incident.
In court filings, Burrowes states he is now homeless, enduring financial hardship after losing his stake, and living in shelters across New York City. He is suing Janice, accusing her of masterminding a long-term scheme involving intimidation, violence, fraud, and financial deceit to seize control of Bad Boy with her son and keep Burrowes out of the mix.
According to Burrowes, Diddy entered his office in May 1996 with attorney Kenneth Meiselas, wielding a baseball bat and forcing him to sign over his shares. The lawsuit states Burrowes was too frightened to resist. Burrowes, despite being named the godfather of Diddy’s son Justin, further claims the Combs family systematically sabotaged his career, leaving him broke and blacklisted.
Burrowes, who helped launch the label in 1993, is demanding millions in lost profits, the return of his 25 percent stake, and a forensic audit of Bad Boy’s finances. His suit adds to the legal troubles Diddy is facing, including serious charges of racketeering and sex trafficking.
Janice was previously accused of introducing Diddy to sex acts at an early age, with some suggesting that may have led him down a dark path. While she has not responded to these latest claims, in October 2024, she released a statement defending the mogul, writing, “My son is not the monster they have painted him to be.”
