Apple has officially rolled out its digital identification card in Arizona.
Arizona citizens who have a driver’s license in the state no longer have to carry around the physical card. To add the ID to your digital Wallet, tap the plus button in the Wallet app. iPhone users would then snap a selfie with the ID followed by photos of the back and front of the card. A scan of your head and facial will then take place. Once the state receives the images, users receive a confirmation email stating their digital card is good to use. T
To traveler’s delight, the Wallet ID can also be used at TSA checkpoints by tapping an iPhone or Apple Watch to a digital scanner.
While many users continue to be apprehensive about putting their license in the phone’s Wallet, Apple ensures that all data presented in the process is encrypted and sent directly between the device and the digital reader.
Arizona is just the first state to adapt to this innovative piece of technology. Connecticut, Georgia, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Oklahoma, and Utah announced that they’d be using digital IDs last year. Colorado, Hawaii, Mississippi, Ohio, and Puerto Rico have newly been added to the list of states to support the feature.
The feature is only available on iPhone 8’s or later and the Apple Watch 4 or later.
