A new animated series inspired by the culture and customs of India is set to air on Disney Junior in 2020, as its first inspired by the South Asian country’s culture, according to USA Today. ⠀
The show, “Mira, Royal Detective,” which is set in the “fictional, Indian-inspired land of Jalpur,” follows the journey of a courageous commoner, who is appointed the Royal Detective after saving the kingdom’s young prince.
The star-studded cast includes some of Hollywood’s biggest stars with Indian heritage, from Utkarsh Ambudkar and Kal Penn to Jameela Jamil and Freida Pinto, with 15-year-old newcomer, Leela Ladnier, signed on as the voice of Mira.
“We are eager to introduce kids and their families to the rich, diverse cultures and customs of India through Mira, a young girl who looks at things with her own unique lens to gain different perspectives and help others in her community,” Joe D’Ambrosia, senior vice president of original programming at Disney Junior, said in a statement. “We hope that she will encourage our audience to actively engage with the inspiring world around them and appreciate the little details that make life extraordinary.”
