Disney World recently announced that its immersive hotel, the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, will cease operation this fall.Â
The company’s website describes the Starcruiser as a “revolutionary 2-night experience where you are the hero.” The experience fully immerses guests in an interactive Star Wars-themed voyage through space.Â
Unlike a typical resort stay, the experience included guest food, offered exclusive access to Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios, and provided interactive programming and entertainment.
The experience was pricy, costing an average of $1,200 per person per day, with family packages priced at about $6,000.Â
The resort was announced at Disney’s 2019 D23 expo and opened in March 2022, to the delight of Star Wars fans. Disney did not give an explanation for the Starcruiser’s closing, but a spokesperson told CNN it was “a business decision.”
“Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is one of our most creative projects ever and has been praised by our guests and recognized for setting a new bar for innovation and immersive entertainment,” Disney said of the Starcruiser. “This premium, boutique experience gave us the opportunity to try new things on a smaller scale of 100 rooms, and as we prepare for its final voyage, we will take what we’ve learned to create future experiences that can reach more of our guests and fans.”
Bookings for the Starcruiser are currently paused but will reopen on May 26 after the company contacts people with reservations booked after the official closing date. The final voyage is scheduled to embark on September 28.Â
