Disney is following Netflix‘s lead by banning password sharing on its streaming services.
Starting March 14, Hulu will implement restrictions on sharing accounts outside of the household.
As outlined in their user agreements, Hulu, along with Disney+ and ESPN+, prohibits users from impersonating others by using their usernames or passwords.
“You agree not to impersonate or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity, including using another person’s username, password or other account information, or another person’s name or likeness, or provide false details for a parent or guardian,” the agreement terms say.
All three user agreements were updated on January 25th. However, it is unclear when the password-sharing rules were added to the agreements for Disney+ and ESPN+.
The user agreements allow the company to monitor accounts for compliance with password-sharing rules, with potential consequences including account restrictions or termination for violators.
