The still-shuttered Disneyland in Anaheim, California, will soon be the first “super” COVID-19 vaccination site in Orange County, officials announced on Monday. The location is expected to be operational later this week.
CNN reports that the park will be one of several “Super POD,” or Point-of-Dispensing sites, according to officials. More locations will be announced.
“The Disneyland Resort, the largest employer in the heart of Orange County, has stepped up to host the county’s first Super POD site — undertaking a monumental task in our vaccination distribution process,” Andrew Do, acting chairman of the county’s Board of Supervisors said in a statement.
More than 195,000 people have tested positive for coronavirus in Orange County since the start of the pandemic. More than 2,100 people have died. The county currently has 2,200 people hospitalized with the virus.
The county is currently vaccinating people who fall under Phase 1a, which includes critical and health care workers and people who are 75 years and older.
Other “Super POD” locations that are open or will open include Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium, San Diego’s Petco Park, and Sacramento’s Cal Expo.
