The 911 dispatcher was skeptical of the officers’ apprehension of George Floyd.
The dispatcher who witnessed the arrest and murder of George Floyd in real-time said she felt that she needed to contact the officers’ supervisor. The woman says she wasn’t worried about seeming like a “snitch.” The entire conversation between the dispatcher and the Minneapolis Police Department was released on Monday. During the convo, the dispatcher describes the arresting officers’ actions as looking “different.”
The woman says she was compelled to contact higher authority. “I don’t know, you can call me a snitch if you want to, but we have the cameras up for 320’s call. Um, I don’t know if they had to use force or not. They got something out of the back of the squad, and all of them sat on this man. So, I don’t know if they needed you or not, but they haven’t said anything to me yet,” said the dispatcher. In response, the sergeant said, “Yeah, they haven’t said anything, unless it’s just a takedown which doesn’t count,” the sergeant replied. “But I’ll find out.”
“No problem. We don’t get to ever see it. So when we see it, we’re just like, ‘Whoa.’ Ah, well? It looks a little different,” said the dispatcher who had not been identified. PEOPLE reports the audio was released nearly a month after police killed Floyd. The transcripts from the 911 calls made by witnesses were also released on Monday. One of the witnesses told the 911 operator that the cops “pretty much just killed this guy that wasn’t resisting arrest. He had his knee on the dude’s neck the whole time.” The witness added,” I don’t even know if he’s dead for sure, but dude was not responsive when the ambulance came and got him, and the officer that was just out here left — the one that actually just murdered the kid in front of everybody.”
“I literally watched police officers not take a pulse and not do anything to save a man … I literally have it on video camera (clears throat). I just happened to be on a walk, so, this dude, this, they (expletive) killed him,” said another witness. Fired officer #DerekChauvin has been charged with second-degree murder after kneeling on Floyd’s neck for nearly nine minutes despite hearing Floyd’s cries. The three other arresting officers have also been charged.
