Disrespect: Social Responsibility of Women by: @niksofly

If I stated the minimal has been the maximum expected, would you believe me? I can not fathom a more afflicting reality than the idea that today’s women have lost their moral aptitude and in doing so have allowed the willingness to be berated the socially acceptable marker for all things breathing with a vagina.  There are no longer standards and the criterion for being accepted has been translated into allowing yourself to be disrespected.

There is truth  in saying that because a woman is vixen-like or presents herself in a sexual way does not mean she deserves to be disrespected. However in that same instance presenting your self as a market steal ( on sale) isn’t encouraging the buyer to pay full price for your worth. If you aren’t concerned with how you are perceived, be mindful of those in your shadow that are definitely conscious of their name and reputation. I was a fly on the wall when my best friend took a phone call. The smile that was once painted on crept from its canvas. A ghastly frown made its acquaintance with her face and the next words that followed were more familiar with me than I would like to admit.  In conversation my friend was disrespected by a man that knew nothing of her; not even her government name. When confronted he dismissed her feelings as he knows XYZ and that’s how he jokes. What was even more disturbing was the fact a woman she placed trust in dismissed her by agreeing with the sentiments “It was a joke” and then proceeded to ask of a favor regarding his music. Joke or not, two things became transparent : 1) The tolerance for disrespect and 2) The projection of one’s tolerance on another.

I will lead by saying that some men are misogynistic and no matter what women do towards eliminating the stereotypes, these men will still believe that a woman is better suited legs agape pleasing the man. However, in this particular instance I will leave that conversation for another day. No matter the industry or environment, there have always and will always be women that will do anything to get what they perceive is “ahead”.  In doing so women will tolerate the sexually loaded compliments, the payments in penis and the lost of discretion when being referred to or as.  These women are very selfish in their intentions.  Their actions not only affect them and their perception, but it fuels the chauvinistic  ideology misogyny has created.  It affects the unsuspecting woman who wishes to succeed through hard work.  Because a man can ask a woman “What that mouth do?” and she finds his brand of crack ingenious and the best pick up line she has heard,  she  encourages that behavior for the next woman.  It lowers the bar in the decency women should be approached with.  Not every woman wants to “pop that ‘gina for a real n*gga” or discuss her sexual appetite as a means of landing a contract or even in the simplest state, getting a man.  When I sit down with an artist or athlete, the conversation of  how rotund my derriere is should not occur nor should I have to lead with “Let’s keep this strictly business”.  I am mindful of how I dress, carry and present myself.  I am always thinking about how my actions can affect the next wo(man) or  me in the future. If I gave a pass to every person that disrespected me, I have just set the standard in how to be treated. No matter how great of an idea or strategy a woman has, because she decided to tolerate disrespect, she will be greeted continually with it and subsequently disposed of ( career wise) if she requires an alternative approach. One instance of selfishness has created a career of  regression.

Our consciousness should never be individually oriented. We as a sector have to think beyond NOW and ME.
