written by @erinboogie

District Attorney Jackie Johnson’s office refused to allow arrests to be made by the Glynn County Police Department in the shooting death of #AhmaudArbery,  according to two Glynn County Commissioners.

According to Commissioner Allen Booker, “The police at the scene went to her, saying they were ready to arrest both of them. These were the police at the scene who had done the investigation.” Johnson blocked the arrests in order to protect her friend and former colleague, Gregory McMichael. McMichael previously worked as an investigator in Johnson’s office.

The arrests of #GregoryMcMichael, 64, and #TravisMcMichael, 34, were announced on Thursday. The arrests come more than two months after the fatal shooting was carried out in the Satilla Shores community, located south of #Brunswick. The father and son were denied bond on Friday afternoon.

Arbery would have turned 26 yesterday.
