A black trans woman by the name of Iyanna Dior was brutally beaten by 20+ black men Monday night in Minneapolis, MN, over an alleged “fender bender’. In a video that has gone viral on social media, Dior is seen being punched and kicked by several men inside of a convenience store before being taken outside.
During the beaten outside, Dior somehow manages to escape and goes behind the counter of the store, where onlookers stood between her and her attackers. The exact cause of what lead to this disturbing attacked has not yet been disclosed.
After the attack, Dior posted a video on her Facebook page stating that she was doing okay, although she suffered minor injuries to her head and teeth and had some swelling and bruising as well.
Since the attack, several well-known black trans women have spoken out about what happened to Iyanna Dior, and how they support her and all black lives that matter.
On Wednesday (June 3), executive producer of the LGBTQ series Pose, Janet Mock, tweeted about Dior and the beaten she endured.
#IyannaDior is a black trans woman who was brutally attacked as a crowd of cis black folks looked on (shoutout to the ONE good sis who tried to intervene). Folks stood witness to this brutality on another black life. You can see it in the video. #blacklivesmatter #girlslikeus pic.twitter.com/s1K6shRuwx

Fellow black trans woman, actress Amiyah Scott noted that people should do better during this time, where people are protesting for racial equality and social justice. She also informed her followers that black trans people’s lives matter as well.
A young Black trans woman named #IyannaDior was brutally attacked by a group of mostly Black cis men in Minneapolis last night. There’s video online that I won't share.
But this is why we must always clarify that all #BlackLivesMatter every time we invoke this chant.

According to Vox, the black trans community is becoming a greater risk of violence. Just last year, nearly 26 people of gender-nonconforming or transgender were killed violently. Of those nearly 26 people, 91% of them were black trans women.
