The NYPD has shared a disturbing video of an unidentified man slashing the face of a New York City boutique’s store manager before fleeing.
The victim was identified as 22-year-old Destiny Cabrera, according to the New York Post. The attack happened just after 3:40 p.m. on Friday in a Washington Heights boutique called Steph’s Designs.
The video shows the masked man wearing an Adidas tracksuit and casually walking into the store and straight up to the register. He speaks to Cabrera for only a couple of seconds before reaching across the counter and slashing her across the face. She grabs her face and runs out of the store after her attacker.
Cabrera was taken to Harlem Hospital in serious condition. Police sourced told The Post that the woman needed surgery to reattach her nose. According to her GoFundMe page, Cabrera will require “several reconstructive surgeries” and will be out of work “until God knows when.” The page has raised more than $17,000 toward its $50,000 goal.
Although it’s believed that the man was a stranger to Cabrera, it is believed that the suspect had walked by the store a week earlier, pausing to look in the windows.
“Last Friday, he passed by the store several times and actually got closed to the windows to look inside as if he was looking for somebody and then walked away,” the store posted in an Instagram caption. “Both times, he was wearing pretty covered clothes, so we couldn’t get a better look of him. As of now, we are doing everything we can to locate this criminal.”
So far, no arrests have been made, and police have no identified a motive for the attack.
