It’s getting messy on the timeline. DJ Akademiks claimed that SZA broke down behind the scenes and called on Drake, TDE execs, and even “15 Bloods” just to stop him from flaming her online. In a now-viral video he’s still standing on, Akademiks said SZA cried to Drake and TDE leadership for protection—and that he backed off only after being asked directly by Drake.
“She couldn’t even do that ‘Slime You Out’ record if I didn’t back off,” he said. “She cried to Drake. She cried to all them dudes over there at TDE. If I really went in, she wouldn’t be able to handle it.”
He even claimed Drake had a personal connection with SZA and stepped in to calm the waters—suggesting it got serious enough for street figures and execs alike to intervene.

But things got even more heated when Akademiks posted a now-deleted tweet mocking SZA’s spiritual expression. The tweet showed a collage of her wearing Islamic, Christian, and South Asian attire with the caption:
“One day she’s Muslim, the next day she’s Christian.”
That move didn’t sit well with Top Dawg Entertainment’s President Punch, who immediately clapped back.
“Didn’t you say the homeboy personally writes the captions for Akademiks TV? Or were you capping when you said it?”
He followed it up with a calm warning, tweeting:
“Y’all might wanna chill. For real champ. Let’s just keep it cool this time around. Or just give me a call, man.”
Shortly after, that religion tweet disappeared from Akademiks’ timeline.
SZA, clearly done with the mess, blocked Akademiks on social media. He posted the block notification with a casual “LOL”—but fans aren’t laughing. Many called out his repeated targeting of Black women, especially after his earlier comments about Megan Thee Stallion and JT.
In a separate stream of tweets, Akademiks also defended Nicki Minaj in her recent tirades, saying:
“She only been exposing the demons of this industry. If you against her you probably sold your soul!”

From saying SZA cried to Drake and industry OGs, to mocking her religion and then deleting it, DJ Akademiks is once again deep in controversy. The video remains up, but his tweets keep disappearing. Meanwhile, TDE’s Punch reminded him this ain’t 2016, and people are watching.
