It’s no secret that there is an ongoing rivalry between New York’s Hot 97 radio station and Power 105.1. Angie Martinez’s transition from Hot 97 to Power may have ignited the beef once again leaving a few, namely Funkmaster Flex, deeply in their feelings.
The announcement was officially made yesterday that Angie Martinez would be joining Power 105.1. Soon after the announcement was made, The Breakfast Club co-host DJ Envy, posted an a photo of a light switch to Instagram captioning it “Lights Out”. Seemed harmless enough, right? Flex obviously didn’t think so. He reposted the photo saying, “Haaaaaa!!! Really @Djenvy??? You want my attention??? We gonna show you what lights out feels like!!!!”Â
Later, Flex posts a photo of a certified mail from DJ Envy’s lawyer to Ebro Darden (former Hot 97 program director). Flex captioned the photo “McGruff the Snitch aka lil power ranger always talking to police and lawyers sending over paperwork!!!#stoptalkingtopolice.” Now anyone with eyes could see that the letter wasn’t anything police related. It’s clearly a cease & desist from Envy’s lawyers to the Hot 97 station. A cease & desist about what, though?
According to DJ Envy who reposted the cease & desist, it was because Flex kept talking about him and his wife. “Damn @djfunkflex if you gonna go hard at lease be truthful… Show the whole letter!!! That letter is to hot97 for putting some1 on air for lying on me and my wife.. No police, no statements… You know the same thing every millionaire does when a pussy lies… Good try!! I know Angie leaving hurts but damn play boy… I’ll post the whole letter in a few… This is fun your really butt hurt.. Lmao”
The situation Envy may be referencing was the scandal between he and his wife last year. In case you forgot, DJ Envy made a statement on the air about being a bad husband to his wife for various reasons. We even dropped an exclusive Blind Item. Then a month later, Erica Mena basically admits to being the subject of that blind item and the woman DJ Envy was seeing on the side. It was a bunch of drama and I’m sure gave Flex tons of ammunition to throw shade. So much shade that he dropped all the tea live on his radio show. I thought only girls gossiped.
To be honest, the whole tit for tat between Flex and The Breakfast Club is old and played, but drama is drama, and ratings pay bills. I get it.
