DJ Jazzy Jeff is bringing decades of expertise to a new online production program. Through a new partnership with tech company CafeMedia, the Grammy-award-winning producer and DJ will lead a six-week virtual program aimed at helping rising music creators. According to a news release, each week of the Command Central: Making Beats class, attendees will focus on different components of beat making. Video modules will teach them about arrangements, mixing, sampling, melodies, and more. Even better, students will have the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned to their music.
Unlike some online learning programs, Jeff isn’t expecting his students to work independently. The “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” regular will walk aspiring producers through the course with live sessions and one-on-one feedback on their tracks in the “Interactive” tier. Those who feel confident enough to tackle the lessons on their own can go through the “On-Demand” level, which includes videos, homework, and other valuable resources to help jumpstart their studio career. By the end of the course, students will walk away with three professionally produced records.
“This course is for a lot of DJs who want to get into production,” he said in an Instagram announcement of the program. His goal is to show creators how to implement expert-level production, even if they are working out of a home studio.
