DJ Kay Slay has been battling COVID–19 since late last month. But earlier this week, word began to circulate that his health had taken a turn for the worst after Wack 100 posted an ominous update on his social media, asking for prayers for the legendary radio and mixtape DJ.
According to Hip Hop DX, who spoke exclusively to Kay Slay’s brother Kwame Grayson, the 55-year old’s condition is improving, and he is well on his way to making a full recovery.
“He’s definitely not going to die,” Grayson told Hip Hop DX. “That right there…I’m not going to lie; I was jumping around. I was definitely happy. Kay Slay is a private dude, and he didn’t tell anybody in the hospital who he was, and we was kinda getting average treatment. When they found out who he was, that’s when everybody stepped up treatment,” Grayson revealed.
“He was slowly fading away, but God didn’t let that happen. Everything in time, and when they found out who he was, they got him powered up again. So he’s up and going. He’s like in a recovery state, but he’s definitely not going to die. You can trust me on that,” Grayson confirmed.
Kay Slay’s rapid decline from the aggressive effects of COVID-19 had his family very worried at first. His brother admits there were some terrifying moments when his family didn’t think he would pull through, but the darkest days are now behind him.
Grayson also denied the rumors that were running rampant on social media that claimed Kay was hooked up to a ventilator, but he did confirm his brother needed help breathing for a time.
“That was not a ventilator,” he explains. “I don’t know how they thought that, but it was not a ventilator he was on. It was a machine that was helping him breathe, but it was not a ventilator,” he said.
“I thought he wasn’t going to make it. He couldn’t even talk. But he was slowly fading out, but God is good. He’s not going to die. They’re going to move him to a private hospital, hopefully, a joint where everybody can come visit him. But he’s not gonna die. That’s not in the cards. He’s in a recovery state. He’s getting stronger. He’s gonna be alright,” Grayson stated.
