DJ Mustard is seeking sole legal custody of his 11-year-old son in a legal battle with his estranged wife over their child’s education.
Mustard found himself back in the courtroom amidst the ongoing and acrimonious divorce proceedings with his estranged wife, Chanel Thierry. The renowned music producer insisted on sole legal custody of their eldest son, filing court documents to modify the existing custody arrangement.
Mustard and Chanel currently have joint legal custody of their three children, granting them both the authority to participate in crucial decisions affecting their kids. However, in his plea, the producer contended that he should be granted exclusive decision-making power concerning the educational matters of their son.
According to Mustard, Chanel enrolled their son in a public school, but he raised concerns about its low rating. He put forth an alternative public school option for their son, with the intention of transitioning him to a private school later on. Additionally, Mustard explained that he consulted with various educational experts who recommended that their child focus on improving his grades before considering a move to a private institution.
Mustard conveyed that he shared the recommendations with Chanel, but she responded defensively and declined to consider the advice. Accusing Chanel of a lack of cooperation in co-parenting, he asserted that she approached their son’s education as a competition that she must win at any expense, even if it results in irreversible educational harm to their child.
As we’ve previously reported, Mustard initiated divorce proceedings from Chanel in 2022. The former couple has three children together. In his filing, the producer sought both joint legal and physical custody of their kids, and he also requested the enforcement of their prenuptial agreement.
