DJ Quik is not holding back when it comes to defending his rights. The iconic rapper and producer recently expressed his frustration with Instagram and other social media platforms, threatening to take legal action for what he sees as a violation of his First Amendment rights.
The First Amendment, which guarantees freedom of speech, is something DJ Quik feels has been compromised by social media giants. The conflict began when Quik allegedly received a violation notice on Instagram for something he posted. In response, he took to the platform on Friday, August 16, to voice his intentions.
“I think the time has come for me to file a class action lawsuit against this and other social media platforms for violating my First Amendment rights,” DJ Quik declared in a bold post. He didn’t stop there, adding in the caption, “I said what I said. And after, close this account altogether,” suggesting he might walk away from the platform entirely.
However, just a few hours later, DJ Quik appeared to reconsider his stance. In an Instagram Story update, he shared that his lawyer had advised him against pursuing the legal action, stating, “My lawyer just told me I’m wasting my time on Instagram.”
While it seems DJ Quik might be backing off from the lawsuit, his outspokenness highlights ongoing concerns among public figures about the power of social media companies to control what users can and cannot say. Whether or not DJ Quik moves forward with legal action, his message has sparked a conversation about free speech in the digital age.
