Actor Djimon Hounsou reported a domestic dispute to Atlanta police late last year that has now resulted in an arrest.
According to police records tied to the incident, Hounsou contacted authorities in December and alleged that his former girlfriend, Riza Simpson, struck him in the face with a closed fist during a confrontation at a townhouse he owns in Atlanta. The dispute reportedly began after Hounsou told Simpson to leave the residence.
The two share two children together. Hounsou told officers the children were upstairs in the home at the time of the alleged altercation. Police noted that while the children did not witness the incident, they may have heard it.
Months later, the case escalated. On Friday, Atlanta Police officers executed an arrest warrant at the same townhouse and took Simpson into custody. She was arrested on misdemeanor charges of simple assault and obstruction. The obstruction charge stems from allegations that Simpson provided false information when questioned by officers.
Police reports state that the children were with Simpson at the time of her arrest. Officers also documented that they could hear the children crying in the background while knocking on the front door before taking her into custody.
No injuries requiring medical attention were publicly disclosed, and no additional details about the alleged false statements have been released.
Representatives for both Hounsou and Simpson have been contacted for comment. As of now, neither party has issued a public statement regarding the incident or the arrest.
The case remains a misdemeanor matter, and no court dates or further legal proceedings have been publicly confirmed at this time.
