DMX is headed back home to Def Jam where it all started.
According to XXL, a source at Def Jam told the publication that the rapper has signed a new record deal with the label.
Producer Swizz Beatz also confirmed the news in an interview with Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club, believing the deal will put DMX back in the spotlight.
“It’s going to be a good year for him, god willing,” Swizz Beatz said. “I just want it to happen so he can go to where he been supposed to have went.”
Swizz Beatz, a longtime friend of DMX says he wasn’t in the spotlight because “he wasn’t in his right form,” but his fans are still extremely supportive.
After serving a one-year prison sentence for tax evasion and being released in January, the rap veteran has been staying busy performing at old-school rap shows and recording music with Swizz Beatz and more.
“He missed a lot of time, but you know what, those people still show up to the shows,” Swizz added. “He does something different with them.”
Safe to say you can expect to hear more from DMX in the near future. You can currently hear DMX on the Swizz Beatz-produced track “Just In Case,” which features fellow rapper Rick Ross. The song is also the opening theme for Epix’s upcoming new series “Godfather of Harlem.”
