Rapper DMX has been sentenced to 12 months in prison for tax evasion, which is a better deal than what he could have originally been sentenced.

X took responsibility for his actions Wednesday in an NYC courtroom. He told the judge that he hasn’t been on the right path as of late and that he needs to make a drastic change.

⠀⠀
The judge sentenced him to a year behind bars and 3 years of supervised release after. TMZ initially reported that prosecutors were trying to give X 5 years, especially considering he failed a drug test while out on bond, causing him to get sent back to jail.

During the sentencing, X’s attorney, Murray Richman, played the rapper’s music video for “Slippin'” to give the judge some insight on all of the trials and tribulations the rapper has faced.

DMX entered a guilty plea on one count of tax evasion back in November as part of a deal with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of NY. Prior to the deal, X was looking at 14 counts and 44 years behind bars.
