Do You Prefer To Date A Man Who’s Been Divorced Or One That’s Never Been Married?

In the dating scene it’s almost impossible to find someone who doesn’t have some baggage. Chances are he has at least one kid, has been married, or may not be the “relationship” type at all. As a woman we find ourselves making a lot of sacrifices to find love. I saw a post about a woman having a full guideline for the men she dates, some of those being that he was between 45-55 years old and must never have been divorced. First thing that came to my mind is that in the 45-55 year old age range, finding a man who hadn’t been married is almost impossible. Then I started to apply it to a younger range. Although it’s not as common, would I want to date a divorcee in the 25-35 year old age range?

I’d like to start out by saying all relationships are different and there is really no way of knowing how your relationship will be based off of whether a man has been married or not. There are definitely pros and cons to dating a divorcee however. Let’s discuss the pros first.

Pro — a divorcee will be a tad more mature when it comes to relationships. He has been through the ultimate relationship, marriage. It’s assumed that he’ll have a greater understanding of the sacrifices you have to make when being with someone. He’ll be a little less inclined to play games. There’s a con to this however, he may have a chip on his shoulder. Baggage is never fun to carry and it’s certainly no fun when someone is bringing it into your relationship. There is nothing worse than a man who is scarred and bitter because his ex wronged him in some way.

Pro — a divorcee, especially one with children, is likely to have a sense of family and responsibility. You get the sense that you are dealing with an old fashioned man, which we don’t see a lot of these days. Having children makes most people a lot more responsible and aware of things. Waking up in the morning and going to work no longer becomes something you do because you want to buy the newest shoes this weekend, it becomes something you do because you want to provide for your family the best way you can. Your priorities change. For a woman like myself, the shift in priorities is more a turn on than the amount of money, tattoos or MVP rings he has. Like always, there are cons and a con in this case could be that he just married his baby mama because he was pregnant and his immaturity was the cause of the divorce.

The fact is, men are simple in mind and complicated in actions. You never truly know what you’re going to get. I would never totally dismiss a man because he had been married before. In fact, men who have lived life and learned life’s lessons are a little more valuable to me than those who’ve been sheltered under mom’s breasts all their life. Every man is different so it is always important to take your time to get to know someone. Taking the time is a lost art in relationships these days.
