Doctors have diagnosed an Indonesian man with a rare penile condition called “eggplant deformity” following an injury he sustained to his penis during sex. The injury has caused his penis to swell and turn purple.
Eggplant deformity is a rare condition that usually happens when a penis is erect and experiences blunt trauma. It can happen when it slips out of a partner’s vagina and bends against their genitals.
In severe cases, the results cause swelling and can block a person’s urinary tract. If left untreated, the deformity can cause impotence and permanent results.
The man went to the hospital after his penis was swollen and uncomfortable for four hours.
He told doctors his penis had swelled after he had sex with his wife. During the encounter, he felt a “crack” in his penis, then his erection went away, he couldn’t ejaculate, and his urethra started to bleed, the Insider reported.
When doctors examined the man’s penis, they discovered a hematoma, or blood clot, that went from the tip to his scrotum and a ruptured urethra. They then prepared him for surgery.
The doctors had to slice his penis open to pull back the outer skin to repair his broken urethra and erectile tissue with absorbable stitches.
They also cut open his scrotum to drain the hematoma they found during their exam.
Following his surgery, the doctors tested the patient’s penis by giving him an “artificial erection.”
During his five-day stint at the hospital and for the next 21 days at home, doctors told the man to pee through a catheter they had inserted into his urethra.
During his checkup four months later, the man told doctors he was happy with his results and that he could have sex and ejaculate with no pain.
