Dominos CFO Endures Fatal Snorkeling Accident

Reports have confirmed that David Bauernfeind, Chief Financial Officer of Domino’s Pizza Group, has died due to a tragic snorkeling accident that took place on Thursday, December 26th. 

While on a holiday vacation in Mauritius, Bauernfeind and his family were staying in the islands upscale Belle Mare section. According to The Sun, he was snorkeling approx. 150 feet away from shore when he drowned.

His body was discovered floating in a lagoon off Belle Mare Thursday morning, with the cause of death being asphyxiation. He was 51 years old.

Bauernfeind came to Domino’s Pizza Group, the U.K.-based franchise of the American Domino’s Pizza Inc., in October 2018. Bauernfeind  was hugely liked and deeply respected for his dedication and share intellect amongst Domino’s colleagues,” said the company’s CEO, David Wild in a statement to PEOPLE. “He was a force for good within the business and will be greatly missed.”

Wild went onto add, “We are all deeply shocked and saddened by this tragic news. On behalf of our Board, our colleagues and our franchisees, we send our heartfelt sympathies to David’s wife Nicolette and daughter Ornella as well as his wider family and friends.”

Mauritius sits in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Africa. Authorities in Mauritius were unable to provide commentary.
