As we wait for the Clippers sale to finalize, Donald Sterling has officially filed documents to sue the NBA.
Sterling, who is currently banned from the NBA for a lifetime, is suing the league for invasion of his constitutional rights, violation of anti-trust laws and breach of fiduciary duty associated with the NBA’s lifetime ban and termination charges. A source close to Sterling says he is seeking damages in excess of $1 billion. The Sterling family stands to make $2 billion from the sale of the Clippers.
Only one problem, however. When Shelly Sterling agreed to sell the Clippers, she signed an agreement that said she, the Trust and Donald Sterling agree not to sue the NBA and to indemnify the NBA against any lawsuits. So basically, Sterling’s currently lawsuit is pointless.
All of this comes on the heels of news that Donald Sterling was reportedly diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, something his lawyer says he was unaware of.
