Classified documents from the White House were allegedly found in Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago.
Last month, 15 boxes of allegedly classified documents from the White House were found and recovered from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago, Rolling Stone reports. This could be another instance where Trump broke his presidential responsibilities. In this case, it would be a violation of the Presidential Records Act. If he’s found guilty following an investigation of the act, the Justice Department could be charged.
So far, an investigation into the matter has yet to be considered, according to two anonymous sources, who said: “discussions about the matter remained preliminary.” For now, the department just wants to get the documents back. Rolling Stone reports that the boxes were reportedly transported back to the White House on Monday.
On Wednesday, Trump released a statement, saying “following collaborative and respectful discussions, the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) arranged for the transport of boxes that contained Presidential Records in compliance with the Presidential Records Act” and claimed the media’s “characterization of my relationship with NARA is Fake News.”
He continued: “It was a great honor to work with NARA to help formally preserve the Trump Legacy. Much of this material will someday be displayed in the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library for the public to view my Administration’s incredible accomplishments for the American People.”
