Donald Trump has managed to find a way to offend nearly every one in his attempt to become the next President of the United States. He’s come for illegal immigrants, mainly of Mexican descent, women, and now the Black Lives Matter movement has caught his attention.
Black Lives Matter was created in light of injustices involving unarmed black people and police officers. Protests and town hall meetings have taken place in attempt to bring attention to the many black lives taken unnecessarily by those who vowed to serve and protect. In an interview with Bill O’Reilly, Trump offers his take on the movement. “I think they’re trouble. I think they’re looking for trouble.” Really, Trump? Really?
As for what caused the republican presidential candidate to come to that conclusion, he says basically says he could tell from watching interviews that the group is up to no good. “I looked at a couple of the people that were interviewed from the group,” he said. “I saw them with hate coming down the street last week talking about cops and police, and what should be done to them. And that was not good. And I think it’s a disgrace that they’re getting away with it.”
Here’s the thing Mr. Trump. Don’t misinterpret the black community being fed up and tired of being hunted and slaughtered as hate towards police. Black Lives Matter doesn’t preach hate towards police officers. They do, however, preach justice for those wrongfully killed by bad officers. Unfortunately, the justice system is still very much a racist one and doesn’t work in our favor. Does Black Lives Matter mean that yellow, white and blue lives don’t? No, in fact it means black lives matter TOO and excuse African Americans for refusing to be silenced any longer.
I think Donald Trump may have underestimated the power of the Black vote. It is that same vote that put Barack Obama in office twice. He came for illegal immigrants because they can’t vote legally, but we can boo.
