Donald Trump may have one less legal case to worry about as he is not expected to face charges for paying hush money to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal after it was revealed that the investigation in those cases has completely stalled. Michael Cohen hasn’t heard from prosecutors since 2018.
According to the Daily Mail, Trump was expected to face charges in the investigation now that he is no longer president, but sources involved told the news outlet that the federal investigation hadn’t been restarted, and it’s likely the US attorney’s office in Manhattan won’t move forward with the case.
Trump was initially accused of paying six-figure sums to the women in 2016 to buy their silence about his affairs with the porn star and the ex-playmate.
Prosecutors argued the payouts to these women should have been subject to campaign finance laws because they were made to help Trump win the 2016 election.
In 2018, Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen was sentenced to three years in prison for arranging the payments, but he has not heard from prosecutors since then.
