On Inauguration Day, Donald Trump will not only have to hand over the White House to Joe Biden— but also the official Twitter account of the president.
Twitter said in a statement confirmed by PEOPLE that the presidential Twitter account @POTUS will be turned over to President-elect Joe Biden come January 20, 2021.
“Twitter is actively preparing to support the transition of White House institutional Twitter accounts on January 20, 2021,” the statement said, PEOPLE reports.
Working with the National Archives and Records Administration, all of the tweets that have been made during Trump’s tenure in the White House will be taken off of the account.
The same transition happened in 2017 when Barack Obama left office. All of his presidential tweets were moved over to the @POTUS44 account.
Trump, who refuses to concede the election, will also lose his “world leader” status come Inauguration Day, which means he will no longer be able to violate Twitter guidelines in his tweets. According to Business Insider, if he does violate guidelines, he could get banned just like the rest of us.
