Mary Trump does not play the family loyalty card when it comes to her uncle, Donald Trump, and we cannot blame her. His niece wants the public to stop considering him to be a “normal candidate” and says we shouldn’t expect him to “abide by the rules” at the presidential debate, and in my own opinion, at anything.
On Tuesday, Mary Trump told Ari Melber, an MSNBC news anchor that “People need to stop treating Donald like he’s normal, that he’s going to abide by the rules or care at all about behaving decently,” she said. “He doesn’t. We cannot treat him like a normal candidate on a debate stage.”
It looks like his niece shares the same sentiments as many of us, her uncle’s debate behavior is “exhausting.” She also feels his interruptions are a desperate attempt.
“He goes into a debate or a town hall specifically with his tactic in his pocket because he knows that getting into a substantive policy discussion is disastrous for him,” Mary Trump said. “His entire administration has been a failure from beginning to end. What could he possibly say about policy that will be to his benefit? Nothing as far as I can see.”
“So he needs to interrupt. He needs to be rude. He needs to talk over other people,” she said. “And he needs to change the subject … no matter how irrelevantly he does it.” She hit the nail on the head with this one, Trump’s debate strategy although poorly done, more than likely works for his fan base.
Trump is scheduled to debate with Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden on Thursday in Nashville, Tennessee, the showdown will be the last debate before the November election. Thankfully, the debate commission has decided to mute the microphones of each candidate during their opponent’s two-minute opening, The Hill reports.
If you recall, the first debate took place last month, and it was a spectacle—given the multiple interruptions and personal insults thrown between the two. Hopefully, the two can stay on track and stick to the issues at hand—America.
