After the Donda Academy abruptly shuttered this week and mysteriously reopened hours later, parents and staff members are tired of Kanye West’s shenanigans.
Just days ago, parents received an email from the principal Jason Angell about the unaccredited school closing its doors for the remainder of the school year, effective immediately. Angell said the school plans to reopen in September 2023. The news came amid days of its owner Kanye West losing multiple deals due to his antisemitic comments.
Shortly after, parents received a follow-up email stating that the school was coming back “with a vengeance.” Even weirder, this follow-up message was signed “Parents of Donda” and not by the principal. The private Christian school opened its doors this year, offering core classes such as language, math, and science. Students also complete daily “full school worship” and enrichment courses.
While the initial email didn’t point to Ye’s recent behavior as a reason for the closing, it appears that teachers are becoming fed up with his rants. One Jewish teacher resigned after Ye’s now-deleted tweet about going “death con 3” on Jews. Reports of other staff members exiting have also run rampant, with some news outlets even stating that there were not enough employees left to keep the doors open.
Donda Academy has come under controversy since its opening, with parents being forced to sign non-disclosure agreements before their children could enroll. There were only about 100 total students, with half attending on scholarships.
It is still unknown whether the school ever resumed.
