Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell announced on his social media on Friday that for the first 45 hours after his new sneakers drop, $45,000 will be donated to the education of Jacob Blake’s children, with an Adidas match.
Adidas has pledged to match Mitchell’s $45,000, which means a total of $90,000 could be donated toward the college fund.
Mitchell’s D.O.N. Issue #2 Spidey Sense sneakers released on Friday. The sneakers are available in six colors and retail for $100 on the Adidas website.
Jacob Blake, 29, was shot by police a week ago in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and is paralyzed from the waist down. Three of his children were present for the shooting.
Mitchell has been very vocal in his support of social justice issues, something that has taken root in the NBA since the season resumed after being halted by the coronavirus pandemic, as players use their platform to speak out amid nationwide protests against racism and police brutality.
