DoorDash is firing back at McDonald’s restaurants who take too long to prepare their delivery orders.
Beginning in 2023, DoorDash will begin raising commission rates for McDonald’s locations that make drivers wait over four minutes after arriving to pick up an order. The rates can jump as high as 20% for late orders.
Rolling out these new penalties are in response to the hefty amount of money that DoorDash has to pay in refunds for delayed orders and orders that are missing items. In addition, McDonald’s locations that accumulate too many order refunds due to missing items or delayed deliveries will have to pay for the reimbursements themselves.
McDonald’s and DoorDash have been working together since 2019. In November 2021, they expanded the partnership to focus on delivery speed. Under the new deal, DoorDash lowered the McDonald’s base commission rate to 11.6% and to 14.1% for DashPass subscribers. The previous rate for both was 15.5%.
