Dozens of Colombian girls were hospitalized after suffering anxiety attacks for allegedly playing with Ouija boards at their school.
The girls reportedly experienced symptoms such as fainting, anxiety, and more. The students were taken by faculty and administration from the Galeras Educational Institution in Galeras to a hospital.
“There were 28 possible cases of anxiety in school students,” Hugo Torres, the head of the school, said, per Jam Press. He is asking community members to refrain from speculating about the girls’ diagnoses and wait for official medical reports to be released.
“The school is waiting for the medical diagnoses to provide further reliable information,” Hugo explained.
Parents believe that the students were using Ouija boards at the school.
Ouija boards were invented in the United States in 1886 and have been sold commercially since 1890. They are believed to be a tool for the living to communicate with the spirits of the deceased.
One parent, who works at the hospital, says she sees at least “three or four children” coming into the hospital daily after fainting.
“Parents, you have to move, investigate what’s happening at school because our children cannot continue in this situation,” she said before adding, “Our children always have a good breakfast, and it cannot be said that what’s happening is due to lack of food.”
It’s unclear whether or not the school will provide an update on the students’ condition. Local authorities have not confirmed if there is a police investigation into the incident.
