Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top coronavirus expert, has been forced to beef up his personal security detail as threats to his safety have increased.
Fauci now requires 24/7 personal security services, including at his home.
According to CNN, a law enforcement source said the Department of Health and Human Services’ law enforcement division asked the US Marshals Service to assist, following threats to Fauci and his family. The Marshals then deputized HHS officers to act as the doctor’s personal security temporarily.
During the White House coronavirus task force briefing on Wednesday, reporters asked Fauci whether he or WH coronavirus response coordinator, Dr. Birx had received threats of any kind, but Fauci claimed he was not able to answer, according to CNN.
“Anything that has to do with security detail, I would have to have you (ask your question) to the inspector general of HHS,” he told reporters, referencing the Department of Health and Human Services.
However, Trump quickly intervened in the questioning, assuring reporters that Dr. Fauci was safe and didn’t require protection.
“(He) doesn’t need security; everybody loves them,” said Trump. “Besides that, they’d be in big trouble if they ever attacked.”
