Dr. Anthony Fauci has called out Fox News for their “outlandish” reporting on the coronavirus pandemic. In an interview with CNN’s Brian Stelter on Monday, the nation’s top health expert said that much of their virus coverage is “taken out of context or are actually incorrect.
“There is so much misinformation during this very divisive time that we’re in, and the public really needs to know the facts. Some of the media that I deal with…I wouldn’t say distort things, but certainly, give opposing perspectives on what seems to be a pretty obvious fact.”
Fauci continued, “If you listen to Fox News, with all due respect to the fact that they do have some good reporters, some of the things that they report there are outlandish, to be honest with you.”
Fauci has often been a target over at Fox News on their opinion shows, which have downplayed the virus and raised doubts about the effectiveness of wearing masks to slow the spread of COVID-19.
“If you look at the scientific data, the masks clearly work.” He said during Monday’s sit down. Fauci also said that face coverings are part of a multi-layered containment approach of “keeping distance, avoiding crowds, washing hands, doing things outdoors much more than indoors — all of that is a combination of prevention modalities that are easy to do.”
