Dr. Jackie of “Married To Medicine” is being dragged online after an old livestream resurfaced of her accusing Black expectant mothers of over-exaggerating pregnancy concerns.
The famed physician recently sat down with Vice President Kamala Harris to discuss Black maternal mortality rates. Harris has long pushed for Black pregnant women to receive better care, as they remain the highest population of women to die during childbirth. The conversation was positive, and part of it was featured in an episode of “Married To Medicine.”
However, Dr. Jackie’s comments with the VP are vastly different from those three years ago during a live stream with Dr. Heavenly, where she said Black women often “cry wolf” to get out of working while pregnant.
“As African American women, we want to also make sure you’re being serious with your doctor and not playing the game so I can take you off work. Because then, we see you 25 times in the pregnancy, it’s hard to believe that there’s a true problem when there’s a true problem,” Dr. Jackie said during that 2020 stream.

Many Black women have called out medical professionals for failing to take their concerns seriously, which has led to complications. Serena Williams famously shared that doctors taking her health issues lightly led to life-threatening blood clots. Therefore, social media has begun calling out Dr. Jackie for being part of the problem. It has also been alleged that Dr. Jackie does not accept Medicare and Medicaid patients, which further demonstrates that she is not passionate about providing equal care to all.
For now, Dr. Jackie has not responded to the backlash, though she will likely soon be forced to speak out.
