Dr. Umar Johnson, widely known as the outspoken “Prince of Pan-Africanism,” took to social media this week with a plea: he’s broke and needs help.

According to his video message, both his personal bank account and the account for his FDMG Academy were frozen following alleged hacking attempts. The financial lockdown has left him without access to any money — not even a digital dime.
Umar says he typically stores all his funds in his personal bank account, transferring money to Apple Pay or PayPal only when needed. But after multiple breach attempts, his bank shut everything down. He now has no access to funds for himself or for the upkeep of his educational institution, the Frederick Douglass & Marcus Garvey Academy.
“I’ve never asked the people for a dollar in my life,” he emphasized, noting that his usual fundraising has always been solely for the FDMG Academy, not personal needs. But this time, he says, he’s left with no choice.
With no clear timeline from the bank on when access will be restored, Umar says essential bills like utilities and internet for the academy are on the brink of going unpaid. He’s calling on supporters to send help through Apple Pay using his cell (215-989-9858) or PayPal at https://paypal.me/UmarThePsychologist.
Despite the crisis, Dr. Umar remains committed to his mission, calling this a temporary storm in the larger fight for educational equity for Black boys.
